Animal Highlight, Week 1 - Galapagos Tortoise

Each week, we will feature an animal.
Tell you about it. Tell you where you can learn more. Tell you if it needs help, and what you can do about it.
This week, we selected THE GALAPAGOS TORTOISE.
Description:
Galapagos tortoises have muddy brown shells with strange black markings. For protection against predators, they hide themselves completely inside their huge shells.
Population:
Only 10,000 - 15,000 tortoises are still living in the wild today.
Food:
Galapagos tortoises are herbivores. They feed on cactus fruit, vines, grasses and other plants. They can go without eating or drinking for up to one year.
Life Span:
Galapagos tortoises can live for more than 150 years. Out of all vertebrates, they have the longest lifespan!

Wow! A weekly highlight. How do you pick the animal of the week? The Galapagos Tortoise is pretty neat but, I would have called him a girafe tortoise. ;o) I think you should do a camel next week. I would like to learn more about them.

Excuse me. When someone does something good, applaud! You will make two people happy.
I am from Japan and learning to write in English, please tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "Get airfare predictions and find great airline ticket deals based on science, not marketing."
Best regards

I think it is now thought that the Galápagos tortoises descended from an ancestor from South America. The Indian Ocean tortoises derived from Madagascar
